How much thought have you given to how you sign off your e-mail messages? If you're like me, those thoughts include pet peeves and nuanced preferences.
I thought it was "interesting" but needs another turn of the Slinkee. You NEVER lose my interest, and I wouldn't say your pieces end abruptly, but I think you could demand more of the reader. You could try to do more at the risk of losing my interest. I wonder if you journaled on a subject like this, if you would find something else good and more than you have that could be added on? Maybe you would, maybe you wouldn't, but it might be worth a try.
As you know, mb, I usually sign off using lower-case initials. I would never in a million years use "Best," which, like your friend, wonders best "what?" I also don't care for "Cheers." ... I thought the topic was a bit quirky, which I enjoyed. Unlike Ann H., I didn't know the topic was very dated. Also, I use punctuation in texts, and don't use abbreviations and fragments. Maybe now that you've handled sign-offs, you can address proper texting!
I don't sign off. If I need to introduce myself I do so in the first sentence, but my email address is my full name. I do say "thanks" at the end if it's appropriate.
This is a very dated topic at this point. The current issue is whether to put a period after a sentence in a text. The answer is no, because people will think (or, in this case, my college granddaughter will think) that you're mad at them.
Enjoy your day.

Matt-
For my day job- ‘Thanks’ or the slightly more formal ‘Thank You’.
For my 23 years in Navy (Reserve) , now retired - it was V/r (Very Respectfully) or R, (Respectfully).
Hm - Best what? I do like My Best at times myself.

Work - I deal a lot with the military and government, so “V/R” (Very Respectfully) is most common
Personal - Cheers (no exclamation) is my go-to
I’m a “best” followed by initials user. And I detest the “!” In email.
"Take care". And my college/highschool kids make fun of me, particularly when I use it to sign off from a txt.
My go to are my initials: bk. Sometimes i'll add a "thanks."
