In simpler times, I would've done so. I did, however, immediately post on the social media platforms for the NIU College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, so I suppose that was my "emergency" response. As you might expect, the posts easily got the most response of any I've created since I began in May.
You should have continued leaving and then the cop would have lectured the guy on bothering them with a nothing call. You're under no obligation to do that. Of course they can refuse to serve you, but that wasn't an issue since you were leaving.
I'm sorry to stereotype, but usually in standoffs such as this, women abhor "making a scene." It's not that they compromise principle, but the hill isn't worth dying on for them, and they feel you are embarrassing them. But this time, you were so fantastically in the right, Bridgett herself probably would have drawn a line, and probably wholly approved.
I liked "silly saga." The last thing I had described to me as a saga was a very long novel. When you can't get out of a pancake place in due time, however, I guess that does constitute a saga.
Congratulations on Northern Illinois beating Notre Dame! I thought that called for an emergency "Inside Edge" Substack.

Yeah, it was so goofy.
